PERMAH Wellbeing Framework

Wellbeing is a topic that has become very close to my heart, and is something that I work on for myself every day, and with ALL of my clients.
Before studying positive psychology, I used to think of wellbeing as “soft” and unrelated to the world of work. Now I see it very differently. To function effectively, be happy and stay healthy in all parts of our lives (including at work), taking care of our wellbeing is critical.
I like to define wellbeing simply: your capacity to feel good, be healthy and live a life of purpose. In my coaching, I use the PERMAH framework, based on Martin Seligman’s theory, to educate, assess and improve wellbeing.
Many studies prove that good wellbeing leads to higher satisfaction, better physical health and increased happiness. In the workplace, this translates to improved performance, greater engagement, fewer sick days and ultimately, better financial results for the company.
Here’s an overview of how high levels of wellbeing in each of the pillars can benefit us, with a focus on the work context:
‣ Positive emotions: Building resilience, managing stress more effectively, and creating a ripple effect of positivity.
‣ Engagement: Greater job satisfaction and enjoyment.
‣ Relationships: Stronger teamwork, better conflict resolution, improved problem-solving and higher morale.
‣ Meaning: Improved performance and happiness.
‣ Accomplishment: Reduced turnover and absenteeism.
‣ Health: Reduced stress and depression, and increased positive emotions.
Sustainable change can be challenging, but working with a coach can make effective and lasting improvements to your wellbeing. If you’re interested in learning more, you can book in a call with me here.
